Sarah will join Christa Brown in an event sponsored by First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, in an event timed to the Southern Baptist Convention’s Annual Meeting. We are creating a space for survivors and advocates, a time to talk openly about the toll of abuse and the threat of misused power.

In this special virtual book launch event, Sarah will appear with advocate and author Christa Brown, a key source in Disobedient Women and considered by many to be the mother of the reform movement to expose abuse within the Southern Baptist Convention and listen to survivors.

Sarah Stankorb will appear with Athena Dixon, Dr. Tameka Ellington, Kelcey Ervick, at the Ohioana Book Festival’s panel, Exploring Social Issues in Nonfiction. From memoir to research-based narrative, these authors explore the good, the bad, and the complicated as they take on a wide range of social issues in their books.

Sarah Stankorb is an invited speaker for American Atheists 2024 National Convention. She will be giving a talk about her own faith experiences, reporting on religion, and the underlying themes of Disobedient Women.
Feb 6
Sarah will appear with Ohio State Representative Jessica Miranda (Democratic whip) at Prologue Books, near the state capitol, to discuss Disobedient Women and state legislation aimed at helping survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
Jan 20
Sarah Stankorb, author of Disobedient Women, will appear with poet Dr. Martina McGowan (A Sweeter Song: Catharsis) at Gathering Volumes, with Dr. Sharon Barnes (University of Toledo) to discuss survivorship, abuse, and healing.

In a special series of events (including a special clergy training on ways to make churches safer), Sarah Stankorb will appear at Wyoming Baptist Church with a main source from her book: Christa Brown.
Brown has spent the past decade and a half advocating for reform within the Southern Baptist Convention and will share her personal experiences and what it has been like to be perceived as a ‘disobedient woman’ by the largest evangelical body in the US.

Westminster College’s History Department will host Sarah Stankorb ’02 for a series of conversations about her journalism work and recently-published book Disobedient Women. During Stankorb’s visit, she will hold class lectures and leadership discussions throughout the day. A public event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Dietz Sullivan Lecture Hall in the Hoyt Science Center on Westminster’s campus.

Join us for the launch of Sarah Stankorb’s book, Disobedient Women. Sarah will be in conversation with editor, journalist, and Religion News Service columnist Jana Riess.
In Disobedient Women, journalist Sarah Stankorb gives long-overdue recognition to everyday women as leaders and as voices for a different sort of faith. Their work has driven journalists to help bring abuse stories to national attention. Stankorb weaves together the efforts of these courageous voices in order to present a full, layered portrait of the treatment of women and the fight for change within the modern American church.
